UNBOUGHT & UNBOSSED
For the past fifteen years, Girls Inc. of Chattanooga has proudly honored women in the greater Chattanooga area who, through their community leadership and/or career achievements, have exemplified the Girls Inc. values of being strong, smart, and bold. They have made an impact as leaders in their communities they have invested in the girls and women around them, and are trailblazers in their careers!
The UnBought & UnBossed Awards began in 2005 to celebrate local female role models who also embody the ideals of former U.S. Representative Shirley Chisholm, who was described as a woman who was "determined, intelligent, and audacious in her beliefs." Chisholm was the first black woman to serve in congress and run for president. Our annual fundraising event is named after the phrase coined by Chisholm who declared herself "Unbought and Unbossed."
Nominations are reviewed and the honorees are chosen by the high school girls participating in the Girls Inc. teen leadership program called SHE - She Can, She Will. For those nominees who chose to accept this elite award, they will walk alongside their teen creating a successful mentoring relationship and will be honored at our 16th Annual UnBought & UnBossed Luncheon on April 22, 2020. Nominations will be accepted until September 27th.
